Hello! My name is Alexandra, and I’m the proud founder of Melanin Minds, a candle company inspired by my lifelong passion for unique and meaningful scents. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a candle connoisseur, collecting candles from around the world, whether they were thoughtful gifts or treasures I found in shops and markets during my travels. However, I often noticed that many candles didn’t deliver on their promise, the fragrance would fade quickly, or the scent just didn’t fill the room the way I hoped.

I wanted to create something that would bring back those positive memories of lighting a tropical candle at home, evoking the feeling of a special Caribbean holiday. I’ve poured my family background and vibrant personality into the design and essence of my brand and yes, I’m also a big fan of rum!

I’m passionate about creating high-quality, beautifully designed candles that not only fill your space with long-lasting fragrance but also evoke positive memories. My candles are crafted to transport you to a tropical paradise, reminding you of special moments, like that unforgettable Caribbean holiday. My passion for design, storytelling, and celebrating life’s joys has truly shaped my brand’s vision.

My goal is to blend scent therapy with mental well-being. I’ve created beautifully curated gift boxes that promote self-care, all while maintaining a luxurious and sustainable brand. I have exciting plans for expanding into well-being and mindfulness, offering assistance to those looking to heal their minds.

How and Why Did You Start Your Business?
Melanin Minds was born out of a desire to combine my family background, my love of the tropics, during the peak of the Global Pandemic after being made redundant following a term of Furlough as an Event Manager. I wanted to design candles that do more than look pretty—they should bring warmth and joy into people’s homes. As a lover of rum (and all the fun and culture that comes with it!), I’ve infused that same energy and vibrancy into both the scents and the brand.

I noticed a gap in the market for affordable, tropical, premium candles. These candles, along with my self-care gift boxes, make the perfect gift for any occasion or a self-love treat, leaving your home smelling wonderfully exotic. Personally, I love burning Zouk Ti Punch while working, meditating, cooking, or unwinding with my favorite shows.

I’d describe myself as colourful, adventurous, and full of positive energy! I love finding ways to connect with people, whether it’s through a shared memory, a laugh, or a beautifully crafted product. My creativity and passion for life inspire every part of my business, from designing bold packaging to perfecting scents that feel like an escape.

How Do You Make Your Customers Feel?
I want my customers to feel transported, uplifted, and surrounded by warmth every time they light one of my candles. It’s about creating a sensory experience that makes their home feel like a sanctuary. With every candle, I hope to spark happiness, nostalgia, and a touch of wanderlust—reminding them of their favourite tropical moments or even inspiring new ones!

Based in Bedfordshire, I pour all of my products by hand in small batches, with lots of love and care. 💜
